Access Wireless Parental Controls Today!

Ever wonder how to protect your children as the wireless world continues to spin around us?

To help, the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families searched corporate websites and visited a few local retail stores to gather information regarding parental controls on cell phones. We asked the following questions to all five major wireless carriers, including AT&T, Sprint/Nextel, T-Mobile, Verizon and Alltel:
  • Have parental controls been developed? If so, how well do they work and how easy are they to use?
  • What controls are in place to protect children and adults from pornography distributed over the Internet?
  • What has been done to educate wireless users on the threat of pornography and the sexualized messages of the culture?
  • How does the company’s website train parents and grandparents about this issue?
  • What printed materials, if any, are available?
  • Are there on/off switches for Internet connectivity and camera features on cell phones? If so, who controls the on/off switch and how easy is it to use?
  • Are monitoring systems available that parents can use to evaluate the websites being reviewed and the content being accessed? What hours of the day and how long during the day can these monitoring devices be used?
For a complete report and further information on the major wireless carriers’ parental controls, visit the National Coalition’s iCare…about protecting children website at www.icarecoalition.org.
