Triple X Domain Name Struck Down
For a third time, the .xxx domain name was struck down last Friday by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
As the National Coalition has been reporting, the proposed domain name would house only online pornography. Although some believe creating this .xxx address would help shield children from pornography, the National Coalition, along with other pro-family groups, believes this would have the potential of doubling the pornographic sites on the Internet, as pornographers would not be required to abandon their other .com websites.
"This is great news for all pro-family groups who were in opposition to a .xxx domain," said Rick Schatz, president and CEO of the National Coalition. "Introducing such website addresses would only legitimize the porn business and give parents a false sense of security that objectionable content would be easier to filter out on computers."
While Internet filters are not infallible, it is necessary for parents to remain the first line of defense in the battle against online pornography.
The National Coalition created www.filterreview.com to assist parents in selecting an appropriate filtering solution for their family. This interactive website allows parents to view features they are looking for in a safety solution, and then lets them click through a list of filters that best match their criteria. In addition, www.filterreview.com provides consumer feedback from individuals who have previously installed the software.
"We hope parents will be proactive in protecting their children from online pornography, and installing a filtering device is the best first step," added Schatz.

"And to those who have stood with the National Coalition in opposing the .xxx domain, we thank you. We must continue to stand together in the fight to protect our children and families from online pornography."
