When “Safe Schools” Become Dangerous

If parents of school-age children are looking for another reason to engage diligently in their child’s public education and to monitor the content presented to their children, they need look no further than the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.

Though almost too Orwellian to believe, the White House’s “safe schools czar,” Kevin Jennings, formerly directed an organization linked to the promotion of pedophilia, teen and pre-teen group sex and promiscuity, and explicit classroom discussion of sexual experimentation by children. As reported by the Washington Times and other news outlets, Mr. Jennings founded and, until 2008, served as the executive director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

As part of its work to advance “educational achievement and personal growth,” GLSEN assembles recommended reading lists for K-12 students and teachers, categorized by purported age-appropriateness. In reality, the “recommended reading” promotes sexual activity among children (including sex between children and adults), and many of the books contain disturbingly explicit descriptions of promiscuous and, often, illegal sexual activity involving children. While GLSEN’s stated mission is “to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected,” it is apparent that a true aim of the organization is to radically sexualize the lives of children in the American educational system and to normalize sex between children and adults, an aim that would, in fact, devalue and disrespect every student affected by such an agenda.

As more information about Mr. Jennings comes to light, there are increasing calls for his removal from the post of Assistant Deputy Secretary for Safe and Drug-Free Schools. You can make your voice heard by contacting your representative and senators to express your concern about Mr. Jennings’ fitness to serve as a “safe schools czar,” and by alerting others about the increasing attempts, at the highest levels of our education system, to indoctrinate students into a hyper-sexualized worldview.

Most importantly, educate yourself and engage in honest dialogue with your children about issues related to sexuality and the sexualized culture in which they are growing up. Click here to access helpful parenting resources developed by the National Coalition.
