Noteworthy News Stories

To keep you better informed regarding matters related to the sexual climate of our culture, the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families will begin shining the spotlight on news stories that are particularly noteworthy.

As always, check out our web site for additional resources to help you respond to issues such as these.

  • Underscoring the need for thoughtful people to properly articulate reasons for opposing pornography, the Boston Globe included an op-ed piece titled “The Politics of Porn” in its December 27 issue. Clearly, many so-called intellectuals have bought the porn industry’s assertion that pornography is harmless fun. Read the article here.

  • Sexual activity declined significantly for younger teenage girls and for teenage boys between 1995 and 2002, according to a new study released by the Department of Health and Human Services. The study compares new findings from the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth with the previous survey conducted in 1995. The news release describing the study can be found here.

  • Christians looking for a strong intellectual rationale for opposing pornography will find it in the National Coalition’s newest booklet “Pornography: The Deconstruction of Human Sexuality.” The 32-page booklet is the sixth publication in the organization’s Cultural Apologetic Series. Authored by Michael Craven, vice president for Religious and Cultural Affairs, the piece offers readers a down-to-earth, biblically based explanation of the devastating effects pornographic messages have upon our culture. But more importantly, the booklet shows us how pornography affects the most vulnerable among us: our children. Visit the web site at www.nationalcoalition.org or call 513.521.6227 to request a copy.
