Cincinnati – The Federal Trade Commission’s investigation into and crackdown on illegal pornographic emails that tempt recipients to visit adult websites will help protect children from receiving unwanted sexually explicit material, according to the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families.
“The FTC and U.S. Department of Justice deserve our praise for prosecuting illegal emails with pornographic messages being sent to innocent children,” said Jack Samad, senior vice president of Strategic Partnerships and Internet Safety of the National Coalition.
To date, the FTC investigation has resulted in charges against seven companies who have been sending illegal pornographic emails through affiliate programs, attempting to mask the company’s identity.
“It is alarmingly clear that criminals have exploited new technology with ease and frequency to cause harm to children,” added Samad. “Pornographers recognize the addictive nature of pornography and therefore target children to secure a life-long customer.”
In addition, the National Coalition offers a reasonable defense to the argument that pornography is not harmful – quite the contrary, evidence continues to mount demonstrating pornography is a destructive element to the intimacy of human relationships and to society as a whole. The organization offers an expose on the harms of pornography titled Pornography: The Deconstruction of Human Sexuality written by S. Michael Craven, the National Coalition’s vice president of Religious & Cultural Affairs. Call the National Coalition at 513-521-6227 for more information on this booklet.
