Ask Your Congressman to Reauthorize Abstinence Education Funding

There are only a few weeks remaining before Congress will determine the fate of federally funded abstinence education programs.

Abstinence funding will expire at the end of June...making it critical for you to contact your U.S. Congressman today and ask them to support abstinence education!

Studies through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) show the rate of teen pregnancy has dropped approximately 35% from 1990 to 2002, and studies after 2002 demonstrate the decline of teen pregnancy has accelerated. In addition, a study published by the Journal of Adolescent and Family Health concluded 66% of the decrease in teen pregnancy was due to teens choosing abstinence, while the CDC estimated 53% of the drop in teen pregnancy was due to teens choosing abstinence. Clearly, the message of abstinence is having a positive impact on reducing teen sexual activity!

To help you further understand why this is such an important issue, the National Coalition has produced a booklet in its Cultural Apologetics Series titled Modern Sex Education: The Indoctrination of a Generation.

This short publication outlines the nature of sex education in public schools today that has helped produce the highest teen pregnancy rates in the world and the largest epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases among industrialized nations.

We encourage you to send this booklet to your representative with a note respectfully asking them to reauthorize abstinence education funding. Please request your copies today, as time is quickly running out!

To give you a better idea of sex education taught in schools today, Focus on the Family has created a video called Stoplight. To view this compelling defense for abstinence, click here.

The National Coalition is here to serve you - but now is your time to act...to contact your representative and voice your support for abstinence education!
