NATIONAL COALITION COMMENTS ON EVANGELICAL LEADER'S RECENT CONFESSIONS
The National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families is deeply grieved to hear the late news regarding Ted Haggard's sexual transgressions.
"Although we will personally support Ted and his family through this trial, we strongly condemn his admitted sexual misconduct and the deceptiveness and hypocrisy which it reveals", said Rick Schatz, president and CEO of the National Coalition.
The National Coalition emphasizes the need for humble, truthful, and Christ-centered leadership that reflects the values set forth in scripture. In addition, the organization urges all believers to recognize the threat of the sexualized culture and to stand firm for the truth of biblical sexuality.
"While sin is a universal human condition, it is crucial for those in prominent positions, especially within the faith community, to exhibit a higher level of integrity and accountability, which Ted clearly failed to do. This tragedy is compounded by the fact that his indiscretions surround the very issue he so strongly opposed", added Schatz.
Haggard's public confession is a positive step in uncovering the truth surrounding this regrettable news. The National Coalition requests full disclosure as the investigation continues and proper action to be taken upon its completion.
"We offer our prayers to Ted and his family as they seek healing and begin to restore their marriage and family."
