Cincinnati – MTV’s recent announcement that it plans to launch a network aimed primarily at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender viewers underscores the reason parents should be able to choose the contents of their basic cable package.

The advertiser-supported network, named LOGO, will be offered to cable customers in their basic cable package, giving parents no choice whether or not the content enters their home.

“A channel devoted entirely to promoting the homosexual agenda is in direct opposition to the values many parents seek to instill in their children,” noted Rick Schatz, president and CEO of the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families. “Consumers deserve the ability to choose whether or not they want to pay for such a channel in their home.”

“In addition, it’s unfortunate that the creative folks at MTV are not using their considerable resources and influence to create programming that is suitable for a broader audience,” said Jack Samad, senior vice president for Strategic Partnerships and Internet Safety.
