Abstinence Education Challenged

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is being threatened by the ACLU and other comprehensive sex education groups for giving federal funds to abstinence-based programs. Claiming the abstinence curricula is inaccurate and outdated, the ACLU is asking HHS to withdraw their money or else a law suit will be filed against them. Spokespersons from the abstinence groups say the ACLU is falsifying information and using outdated resources on the programs. For more information on sex education in public schools, please contact the National Coalition at (513) 521-6227 to request your copy of the booklet Modern Sex Education: The Indoctrination of a Generation.

Mobile Phones Used to Receive Pornography

As the National Coalition has been reporting, new wireless devices are being used to create and distribute pornography not only in the U.S. but also around the world. Often times, the greatest impact from these advances in technology is found among young adults, teens and even young children, as they are often the most technically sophisticated members of our society. Unfortunately, young people are also the most vulnerable in terms of sexual abuse and the breakdown of long held values and traditions. For more information on how to protect your teens from sexually explicit mobile content, please visit www.icarecoalition.org to learn more about the National Coalition's new I Care...about protecting children campaign.

Young People Fear Breakdown of Family

In a recent mobile phone study conducted by New America Media, Americans ages 16 - 22 say one of the top things they are concerned about is the breakdown of traditional families, followed by violence and poverty. But even with their fear, ninety percent of those surveyed expect to be married and have families. To address this issue, the National Coalition has launched a program called Married4Ever and is leading a task force comprised of pastors and business leaders to strengthen and protect marriage. The task force will train pastors and lay leaders in premarital counseling, programs for blended families, services for hurting marriages, enrichment classes for healthy marriages and mentoring programs for young couples.

Civil Unions Looming in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Senate recently approved legislation to create civil unions for same-sex couples. If passed, this will pave the way for same-sex marriage and redefine the traditional institution between one man and one woman. New Hampshire will be the fourth state to pass such a law, followed by New Jersey, Connecticut and Vermont. Please call the National Coalition to request a copy of Thinking Critically, Acting Compassionately: A Christian Response to Homosexuality if you would like to learn more about responding rationally to the homosexual political agenda. This booklet addresses the myths of the homosexual lifestyle, spotlights the objectives of the homosexual agenda and how it threatens social order and the Church, and explains how Christians should respond.

Truth In Culture Weekly Resource

The National Coalition has long recognized the myriad complexities of cultural issues and the necessity of Christians to fully understand the origins of those ideas that challenge the truth of Scripture. Without such understanding, it is difficult for the Church to effectively bear witness to the Truth. This was the impetus for establishing the Center for Christ & Culture as a ministry of the National Coalition.

One of the principal resources offered by the Center is the Truth in Culture Weekly, a free e-commentary written by its Founding Director S. Michael Craven. Delivered each Monday by e-mail, Michael's commentaries offer critically acclaimed insight and cultural analysis from a biblical worldview.
